About The Entry

01 — DIGNITY WITHOUT DOMINANCE

Architecture does not need to dominate to have presence.

This house rejects height as a symbol of power.

Its low profile and extended horizontal roof create stability, reassurance, and quiet dignity.

It proposes an architecture of maturity: the confidence to relinquish power rather than display it.

02 — THE BEAUTY OF AMBIGUITY

The monochromatic exterior appears cool and inorganic, yet its material language is rooted in wood.

Neither cold nor warm, this contradiction creates ambiguity.

Ambiguity is not indecision.

It is space for imagination.

Boxlike volumes meet an exceptionally thin projecting roofline.

Mass meets line; solidity meets delicacy.

Sharp edges create tension without ornament.
Beneath the eaves, the exterior's restraint gives way to the reddish warmth of wood.

The exterior addresses the observer.

The sheltered space embraces the inhabitant.
Coolness for the eye.

Warmth for everyday life.

03 — A SPACE BETWEEN WORLDS

Deep eaves form a semi-outdoor space approximately 2,720 mm deep, including the column-supported zone.

Designed as a pathway for wind, it draws breezes toward the interior, connecting everyday life to the seasons.

The eaves temper direct sunlight; the absence of west-facing windows reduces exposure to Japan's intense afternoon sun.

Neither inside nor outside, this is a place to reclaim a sense of time amid the acceleration of modern life.

04 — PRECISION AS EXPRESSION

There is no applied ornament.
Roof edges, cladding joints, and material transitions are carefully resolved.

When ornament disappears, precision becomes expression.

The integrity of its details reveals the time, skill, and care invested in its making.

05 — A QUIET REBELLION

Faster. Bigger. More.

Society measures richness through growth, efficiency, and consumption.

This house chooses otherwise.

It does not compete in height, seek attention through ornament, or attempt to dominate nature.

Instead, it welcomes wind, controls light, and invests time in detail.

Richness lies not in acquiring more with ease, but in caring for what we truly need, devoting time and effort to it.

In an age obsessed with growth, this architecture proposes maturity.
