In Penghu, local people call dolphins “Hai-chu” in Taiwanese, which is a homonym for “the greatest place to live.” The design team took "dolphin" and "mouse" as inspiration to create the cute “Hai-chu” image, in which blue and white porcelain symbolize the sea and the impression of the East. In response to the Taiwan Cycling Festival, “Hai-chu” can be one of the welcoming mascots. The pattern on its body epitomizes the culture and character of the city and can be appreciated by tourists and resonate with local people. “Hai-chu” is a delightful animal, and its most distinctive characteristic is that it shows many elements and symbols that are beloved by the Chinese. Whether it is the porcelain pattern or the specifications and totem, there is a close connection with Eastern culture. The blue and white porcelain echoes the scenery of Penghu. With the sky and the sea, a vivacious “Hai-chu” is facing the sunlight, holding a colorful ball, and its smile is full of childishness, making it a popular spot for local people and tourists. In addition, the installation art often revolves around the number 8, which sounds like the word "fortune" in Chinese. In addition, the pattern on “Hai-chu” covers all the characteristics of Penghu. Although Penghu is only 141 square kilometers, it is home to the world's 10 bests, including the Twin-Hearts Stone Weir, Penghu International Fireworks Festival, turtles, lighthouses, and other cultural and creative resources. “Hai-chu” represents not only the local culture of Penghu but also an important role in promoting tourism in the area.
