Rock Fire Praise

This project is a Japanese barbecue restaurant themed with " Rock Fire Praise". Inspired by the petroglyphs of the Altamira caves painted 12,000 years ago in the Iberian Peninsula, the design team incorporates the prehistoric concept of 'carnivorous justice' into modern design, using abstract forms of expression to induce the deep-rooted carnivorous instinct in consumers.

The project uses granite, old-style tiles and volcanic rock as the main building materials. Combined with the bright decorative paint on the dome, the design forms a color contrast between black and red, which symbolizes rock and fire in the theme and thereby brings a strong visual impact and creates a calm yet eruptive style. The synthesis and interaction between black and red and the dim light expression reproduce the scene of our ancestors roasting meat over a fire in a stone cave, creating a cavern-like setting for customers. The ink writing and samurai swords on the walls bring a sense of sterness, and together with the sharp, angular shapes of the walls and dome, give a first impression of Shura Dojo. The themed simulation frees customers from the constraints of secular aesthetics, induces their desire for meat, prompts self-questioning as they are roasting the beef and awakens the justice deep down in their heart that has been suppressed by secular dogmas.

On the second floor, the designers created an environment with less visual impact by reducing the color of red in the background and adopting a wabi-sabi style, giving it a sense of historical richness and natural texture. Bamboo fences, wooden hedges, Japanese shoji doors, etc are used as partitions to divide the space on the second floor. Coupled with the soft lighting that simulates natural light and the textured, delicate furnishings made from organic materials, a peaceful environment is created to provide customers with a dining place that’s quiet and private like a sanctuary.
