Ningbo Shangchen Aesthetics Center sits in Fenghua District of Ningbo, a place rich in culture and history, and known for its lush mountains and lucid water. In the form of a C letter, the center has diverse functional areas and is a brand new humanistic community that marries commerce, landscape and artistic decorations. The design takes inspiration from the local culture, and is themed around mountains and waters. The harmonious arrangements of green plants emphasize the multiple layers of the three-dimensional space from points, lines and faces. The hard lines and large areas of white space are to make a contrast with the green space. The changing cut-outs in the surrounding walls break the dullness of a single space. The seemingly independent blocks are linked in a seamless way. The simple, restrained lines and light combined create a soft transition and integration between the building and its structure. The stone flooring reflects the light and shadows and magnifies the beauty of the space. Despite the small size of the building, the large glass curtain wall and window openings form a landscaped atrium to the periphery, allowing people to appreciate the courtyard views.
