Located in the thriving business district of Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou, the building was built in the 1980s with a strong Lingnan culture and custom. The owner intended the space design to reflect the professionalism, artistry and elegant sentiment of the spot, shunning the worldly vulgar aesthetics. In this context, the designers have taken steps to eliminate unnecessary decorative features on the basis of local culture, rejecting the fussy, set and stylized furnishing techniques. They work hard to preserve the building’s original appearance as much as possible with pure white and the grey of plain cement as the base tone. With the addition of modern steel plate materials, stained glasses and abstract artworks, the area plays out the beauty of the conflict between the new and the old.

The Orient is an eternal subject that has endless potential to explore. It can be regarded as the original topic of Chinese designers as it’s deeply rooted in the cultural heritage and blood of the Chinese Nation. This is also one of the source of inspiration for the designers, which combine international modernism and regional oriental contexts to create an infectious cultural design that not only completes the space’s functional and structural integrity, but also sublimates the atmosphere and immersion experience to move people’s hearts .
