Tablescape

We studied the Ba Shu landscape which is famous at the project site and table setting that reflected the contemporary lifestyle of 21 century, seeking a single solution combine both elements into Tablescape.





“Tablescape” consists of a piece of table with a size of 26m x 26m that can cater more than three hundred people at one time. In our design, the table is not a single form of furniture but a space defining device that works with an undulating ground to facilitate different kind of social activities. Spaces are craved out from this table in different sizes and organizations referring to the Ba Shu Landscape Design. There are five zone in our design to accommodate different needs and scenario.” Stand eating zone” is located at the periphery of the table where people can either eat with bar seating or by standing. This is a zone of high mobility and fast pace. “Group zone” is organized to allow group size ranging from one to six for more intimated meal gathering. “Exchange Zone” is a linear organized zone with more flexible setting that allows different form of interaction. “Forum zone “is a centralized organized zone with a feature wall behind in a stage like setting while “Leisure Zone” combines with the sunken garden design, allowing people to sit on table in a more causal condition.





To allow different events to be happened in this space, an electrical long full height curtain is hanging around different zone to allow different use and privacy. The table design is kept generic that could be used for different functions. The spaces can be easily transformed into performance space, exhibition space or forum space etc. Small little pots of plant are placed at different spot as space dividers. Although the whole space is organized in landscape setting, entrance to different zone is distinctly designed to allow easy way-finding. Overall design is allowing multiple zones without any hard boundary that enhance interaction among people.
