Fuzhou YanTaiShan

YanTaiShan of Fuzhou city is located on the south bank of the Minjiang River. It is known as the ‘Museum of Universal Architecture’, which means that YanTaiShan area is a complete and authentic representation of the traditional pattern and history of the city of Fuzhou. YANTAISHAN Commercial Block Project is part of the renovation of the YanTaiShan historical district.



In the process of planning and design, UCGD attempted to simultaneously preserve the urban fabric, traditional streets and alleys, spatial patterns and historical architecture of the city. According to the terrain and original street space of the site, the project is divided into three blocks using Zhonglie Road and Tingxia Road as the vertical and horizontal dual axis. Zhonglie Road, which runs north-south, connects Cangqian Road to the historic buildings, while forming the main transport system for the site with Tingxia Road and Sixianli.



In terms of historic buildings, they have undertaken spatial renovations and business upgrades with modern design methods while maintaining the original architectural forms. Such design concept is a powerful way to awaken the vibrancy and vitality of the Hu’tong (Chinese traditional street system). Apart from that, the newly built building facades extract the essential elements of historic buildings of YanTaiShan, trying to pass on the culture of the site itself.
