Connectivity Concept

With Connectivity Concept, Deutsche Telekom in collaboration with LAYER created a family of connectivity and smart home devices that not only offer the latest technology but are also designed to harmonize with and compliment the home space. Products that are designed to be shown – and that people would want to proudly make visible within their homes.

The design of connectivity and smart home devices is often intrusive. Traditionally, the category visually celebrates the performance and potential of the technology, rather than becoming part of the space and interior where it is placed or reflect the human benefit it offers to people’s lives. These challenges can also cause technical issues: for example, many users tend to hide their routers, which can lead to connection issues.

Great technology should be respectful, seamless, and unobtrusive. It should harmonize, not impose. By taking inspiration from the various cues found around the home, Connectivity Concept creates a sense of belonging with the objects that surround it – celebrating the beauty of the home. Its natural materials blend harmoniously with the interior.

Connectivity Concept utilizes a new palette of crafted materials to elevate the UX to a more natural and human state. Its discreet interfaces provide precise feedback about the connection status and smart home services to further enhance a natural and intuitive experience. They disappear when not in use, helping the objects to seamlessly blend into the interior space – and create delight as they reveal.
