Abyssal Zone

The property was a semi-finished space with a floor area of roughly 200 m2, renovated for the purpose of serving as a private guest house. The designer uses diving in the ocean as the theme and creates a mysterious yet fashionable and calming vibe through dark colors and the interplay between linear lights and shadows. Combined with reflective surfaces and metals such as stainless steel, this design utilizes reflections of light to not only mitigate the issue of insufficient ceiling height, but also help to conceal the flow and bring about a visual convergence at the entrance. Outside of the public areas, this design also installs functional features such as karaoke, cigar room, dry kitchen, and wine storage to meet the demands of various socializing occasions and banquets.



To meet the needs of hosting 20 to 30 people, this design uses open concept for most of the layout. With the arrangement of sofas and linear lights, the sightline in the public areas is broadened and opened up, creating a smooth, open flow. The wall with a projection screen serves as the symmetrical central axis for the socializing area, with a bar area and a dry kitchen extending out on either side, and a display and storage area situated at the far end so that the homeowner’s collections can be transformed and incorporated into the view. Furthermore, since the height of the original ceiling is only 240 cm, this design uses metal textures with water ripple patterns for the ceiling to create a more layered effect in height and reshape the focus of the sightline.
