Katsuno, a family-owned business dedicated to heritage crafts in Japan, has been promoting the art of embroidery for over a decade. Despite their aim to preserve traditional values, they have faced challenges in presenting themselves to future generations.
Fortunately, an emerging trend indicates a growing appreciation for handmade and crafted products, which now incorporate unique personal touches and creativity into traditional techniques.
Embroidery kits are a prime example of this trend, offering a personalized way to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art. The kits have been designed in a book format for easy organization and display, featuring illustrated characters on the packaging taking pleasure in the mundane; a grumpy lion and a blue bird, a pair of matching toucans, and a sleepwalking hedgehog atop a cactus.
The new design has successfully appealed to contemporary consumers who appreciate the uniqueness of craftsmanship and have discovered the joy of embroidery as a means of creating innovative works that pay homage to the past while embracing the future.
