Mume is a restaurant that successfully blends traditional Chinese elements with contemporary design to create a stunning dining experience. The restaurant's name, meaning plum blossom, provided the inspiration for the design direction, which can be seen from the moment guests step off the elevator on the 90th floor. Exquisite selenite doors contrast beautifully with futon clay tiles of various shapes and directions on the walls, providing different textures that lead guests to the flower bud entrance. The entrance features a book-matched Sofitel marble floor in a sunburst pattern with custom brass inlays, resembling the original Mei Hua flower logo. The reception area features large cream-colored petal-like screens embossed with plum blossom patterns, and a host desk carved from a solid block of onyx bearing the Chinese character “Mei Hua.” The intimate bar, decorated with warm neutrals and curved walls, mimics the natural form of a flower, with bespoke armchairs in plush velvet displaying delicate plum blossom embroidery. Behind the solid brass and onyx veneer bar, a see-through metal screen showcases the incredible views over the city.
The main dining area has floor-to-ceiling glass walls, providing a dramatic and expansive view from the 90th floor. The columns are hugged by high gloss red lacquered paneling with custom-cut clay tiles in the shape of fish scales running down the center. The chef's show kitchen features duck and Josper ovens, traditional steamers and woks, and coveted counter seating. Mume has two VIP rooms that can be pre-booked. One of the VIP rooms is accessible from the bar and boasts incredible views and a gallery wall of traditional red tea caddies. The second VIP room is reached through the main restaurant and is dressed in reds and gold, with lacquered finishes and traditional Chinese furniture. Lighting comes from a sizeable dome-shaped pendant hung over the lacquered table, featuring hand-painted lacquer motifs depicting ancient rural life in Chinese villages.
