Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taipei

The Taiwan Lantern Festival is a celebration of blessings that has been held for 34 years to usher in the first full moon of the Lunar New Year. The full moon carries ours hopes and dreams for the future. Since 2001, the Taiwan Lantern Festival has been held in different cities across Taiwan, and it is returning to Taipei after 23 years, where it was first held. The innovative and groundbreaking integration of tradidtional lantern art with the latest lighting technology for visitors. The Lantern Festival is a joyous celebration to look forward to!



After experiencing the recent challenges arising from the pandemic, we have begun to learn to co-exist with the virus and started to reconnect with the world at our own pace. This is the first large-scale international event to be held since the easing of pandemic restrictions in Taiwan, and it will light up the world and present a fresh attitude. For the first time, the Taiwan Lantern Festival will be a truly “urban” lantern festival,” scheduled to be held in the densely populated areas of Taipei City, where works will be exhibited among high-rise buildings and lights will illuminate the city’s streets and alleys. All lantern festival venues are accessible by MRT, which links the East District and the Xinyi District, integrating local business as well as Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, and other key urban sites. Four major lantern zones and lantern display zones spread across 12 Taipei districts have been designated as sites for lantern exhibitions.
