1953 - Tsetsejwe Agritourism Development

This project is a development that consists of a guardhouse, guesthouse, the entertainment building, a private living cottage, outdoor showers, events space and ostrich farming area. The project will be built at a small village called Tsetsejwe in Botswana.

The design was inspired by a natural feature (Hill/mountain). This Hill, popularly known as Tsetsejwe Hill, is a major feature which has become a landmark of the village. The whole of the village was started around the village, grew and expanded outwards.

The design concept of this Agritourism development is derived from this beautiful feature (the Hill/Mountain). The main building is the guesthouse and it represents the Hill. Other activities are secondary (the entertainment building, the living cottage, events space, farming area and natural landscape) and are centered and developed around the guesthouse/the Hill. These secondary activities represent the village. The entire development is fragmented and dispersed orderly among the natural landscape and yet harmoniously related and interconnected with each other. This spatial arrangement anchors the development in the natural landscape. Views are maximized through the use of collapsible glass doors, large windows and glass walls. Use of natural materials further reinforces the idea of the building’s respect for nature. The project located at a village which has developed around a prominent natural feature (Tsetsejwe Hill), had to ‘bow’ to nature/natural landscape. The development has been designed to become the second natural feature that the village of Tsetsejwe will also pride themselves in as a landmark.
