This project is an indoor design case for residence. The project is near Taipa Grande Natural Park, Macau, the owners are a couple and a daughter, a happy family of three members. As the couple prefers austere European style, while the daughter prefers “wabi-sabi” minimalism, this work blends the two distinct interior design styles for the sake of harmonizing overall aesthetics which is considered a big step. Stepping inside, the whole space is perceived an immense austere European style. Beige is chosen as the underlying hue, one of the neutral colors that act upon two different interior styles with no conflict. The walls behind the shoe cabinet door and the shoe bench in the entryway area are ornamented with austere European wood molding trims. The TV wall molding and the background wall of the sofa area contain austere European style elements. Notably in public area, the light fixtures in ceiling and the milk coffee hue of the finished sofa are one of the modern style elements. With such elements intentionally introduced, the dark color elements and the metal elements with high-class texture break the monotony of a single style in public area and increase the abundance and layering of the interior space. Modern style elements further play a part in equating and harmonizing austere European style and “wabi-sabi” style.Stepping into the daughter's room, you will see a faultless “wabi-sabi” interior space. Beige neutral color underlines the main hue that agrees with the exterior space. There is no trace of abruptness even if you open the door to look across. The flooring and bed back dominated by walnut hue, coupled with minimalist custom-made furniture and unique “no main lamp lighting”, presents a pure and simple beauty. Capitalizing on the blending of neutral color hues, the introduction of modern style elements and other special techniques, the designer makes a trade-off of austere European style and “wabi-sabi” style to the great satisfaction of the three occupants.
