This case relates to the interior design of a mid-level villa (with outdoor courtyard). The project is located in Guangzhou, China, built on a hill with lush trees and privileged natural conditions. The interior atmosphere of this building is defined within the framework of modern Chinese style. The philosophical idea of “integrating with nature as one” as a part of the east culture is interpreted by the interior design, provided that the modern living needs are satisfied. This case is a bold attempt to try out the interior design of mid-level villa, but also a continuation and due respect to the outdoor natural elements. Stepping in, you will see the classical Chinese space atmosphere dominated by light color and supplemented by ink color. On the first floor, the living room and dining room form a “figure seven” enclosure, where the side exposed to sun is presented in the form of glass curtain wall. This special technique is used to blur the space boundaries, making it possible to connect and fuse indoor and outdoor spaces. This gives an expression to the eastern concept “harmony in and out”, shifts the inhabitants’ attention to the natural scenery outside, and all human interventions make the magic and charm of natural elements stand out. For soft furnishings, the Chinese classical elements are leveraged in this architectural space to the extent possible. From small details to large areas, every article of furniture and furnishings, including lamps and decorative ornaments, are perceived with a strong oriental flavor. The architectural space is filled with the special charm of the east culture. Notably the designer thinks out of box, identifies an appropriate trade-off in the interior space, and cleverly adds dark green and other eye-catching color skip ornaments. With the color palette generally reconciled, the special effect of distant and close views is created in the interior space, leading to the formation of dimension and space depth.
