Nestled in the Laoshan District of Qingdao, within the architecturally striking Shangshi International Financial Center, Diaoyutai Hotel Qingdao stands as a paragon of sophistication and cultural opulence. The design team, featuring distinguished consultants such as KPF as the architect, Studio Munge overseeing interiors, and Signcheck as the signage consultant, embodies a harmonious blend of talent and international expertise.

The project's standout feature lies in seamlessly marrying traditional and modern aesthetics, creating a captivating journey from the exterior to the interior.

Signcheck, functioning as the signage consultant, aspires to transcend mere wayfinding; our aim is to elevate signage to an art form that accentuates the interior space. Drawing inspiration from the Four Treasures of Chinese Study, the theme finds its roots in the architectural outlook of the Chinese Treasure Box Pagoda and the tranquility of a Chinese garden.

Incorporating the essence of Diaoyutai's brand philosophy, rooted in "Chinese Spirit, International Style," the design extracts the stone material of inkstone, symbolizing ink with a deep black hue. Acknowledging that ink is not uniformly black, the signage cleverly plays with lighting to reflect varied shades. For instance, the lift directory employs the natural texture of black stone, symbolizing the power of Chinese calligraphy in the spotlight.

All signage fonts adopt calligraphy, showcasing the exchange of strong and weak brush strokes, achieving a harmonious balance of weight and stability. The calligraphy arrow, distinguished from the standard arrow by its uneven strokes, employs cutout letter manufacturing techniques, enhancing the user experience.

This design transcends boundaries, embodying an international fusion of Eastern and Western characteristics, elevating the hotel to a distinguished world-class establishment rooted in profound Chinese origins. Utilizing Chinese culture as our theme, we employ modern approaches for presentation, seamlessly integrating traditional Chinese elements with a modern touch of innovation and sophistication.
