"Zen" is a state of mind derived from Buddhism, representing individual's quest for inner peace. Living in a fast-paced society, people are desperate for a place to calm down and find peace from the outside in. Based on the concept of the oriental "Zen" culture, this project incorporates five natural elements - water, wood, stone, iron, and earth - to create a gentle and pristine artistic space abounding with spiritual sensibilities.
Situated in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province in China, nicknamed the "International Porcelain Capital", this project serves as an art education hub for China's eight prestigious fine arts academies, earning the title of "Art Silicon Valley" as a premier art location. The interior has been thoughtfully divided to provide ample exhibition and discussion areas. The atrium offers people an ever-changing visual experience as they navigate the surroundings. The whole space is therefore not only practical for teaching but also embodies the essence of the Zen style. In addition, the exhibition area is equipped with an adjustable sun shading system for intelligent sunlight control. Track spotlights of different spectrums are specially designed to satisfy the lighting needs of various exhibits. Lights in the classrooms and meeting rooms are covered with lamp slices/films to produce light beams that mimic sunlight.
Nestled amidst enchanting natural scenery and embracing the realm of art education, this project revolves around the design concept of a Zen-style space accentuated by captivating artwork, exuding an authentic Zen atmosphere.
