Park System of Shenzhen Longgang Metro Line 14

Shenzhen Metro Line 14 is a rapid transit line connecting the Longgang District in northern Shenzhen with the downtown. It is the primary means of transportation for numerous residents of Longgang District who commute daily to work in the downtown of Shenzhen. Due to the excavation that occurred during the construction of Metro Line 14, the ground of the subway station areas in Longgang District has been significantly affected. Consequently, the restoration of these areas has become an urgent and essential priority in the urban development of Longgang District following the official opening of Metro Line 14 in November 2022.

The proposal of landscape architecture team won the international competition held by the Longgang District government at the end of 2022 and was selected as the implementation plan. This Proposal covers a total of 9 subway stations of Metro Line 14 located in the core area of Longgang District.

The landscape architecture team conducted a careful site investigation and discovered the potential for creating a series of medium-sized and small parks at the nine subway exit landscapes, The nine stations can be classified into three types: Transportation Hub, Industry District, and Community District. Stations of the same type share common design agenda.

The transportation hub stations are interchange stations where multiple transit lines intersect with large and dispersed flow of passengers. They showcase the city's image and respond to local context. Industry District stations experience significant peak-hour commuter traffic with the primary user group being industrial workers and business people in the surrounding area. Community District stations are typically encircled by a plethora of residential areas, and there exists a pressing demand for bicycle parking in the vicinity. Although the landscape area in these stations is usually small, the usage intensity is high.

With systematically optimizing the public realm system of the core area of Longgang , it is a system with points, lines and planes as well as an exploration on sustainable, eco-friendly urban development.
