Tameshigiri directly translates to "test cut" and refers to the Japanese-borne art of testing the quality of a sword. Over time, it has developed into its own martial art and now refers to the testing of a swordsman’s precision cutting skills. Ideated by Asante Lawla of Martial Machina Ltd. and designed by MAKO Design + Invent's seasoned engineers, the Tameshigiri Trainer is a compact and easily transportable training solution that assists in the enhancement of one's sword edge alignment skills in all environments. This innovative system provides feedback on edge placement using 405nm lasers and a reactive target made with photo-luminescent vinyl and a thick blackout polyester frame for those seeking to elevate their swordsmanship. It was designed with the user heavily in mind, as evidenced by its interchangeable clamps, modular design that adapts to swords of various sizes, and unique ability to offer progress tracking or gamification through connection to a mobile app. The device is powered by lithium polymer batteries that provide 2 to 3 hours of battery life per 30-minute charge in its present form. In addition to the target and the device itself, the Tameshigiri Trainer comes with safety glasses to ensure the protection of users' eyes.
