Throughout Shanghai’s history a growing amount of architectural wealth has created a beautiful variety of design styles, but underneath its modern sprawl the city’s old soul remains engrained everywhere.

From the colonial architecture of the former French Concession to its riverside skyline pierced with exciting new architecture, Shanghai is a city of paradox and change. CDS always look to our surroundings for inspiration. The rich history of Shanghai and architecture of these beautiful new buildings in a prime location with views over the river gives us an invaluable resource to reference from.

The various buildings’ forms and style across the whole Sanlin project is a truly timeless and elegant architectural approach. The classic French townhouse style with a modern detailing, the white stone facade with large arched windows that flooding the rooms with light and display the beautiful views over the river influenced us to create a design style that was classic in its roots, but overlaid with modern design French style aesthetics. Essentially this vernacular mixed with our unique modern design influenced our re-imagination of a new contemporary sophisticated French and European design language for not just the applied interior detailing such as wall mouldings, bathroom vanities, joinery and ceiling designs, but also the FFE that is unique but timeless and elegant.

Our Design Ethos works along many scales. As a part of this challenging and accelerated exercise, we proposed a wide and encompassing material and detail refined ethos that can be both up-scaled towards the whole development in all its grand communal elements. But also downscaled to address the critical intimate details of the private residential spaces.

Rich marbles and timbers combine with light and elegant architectural detailing adorning the walls, influenced by the grand, French-inspired facades of the Villas, presenting a refined and stylish setting for the complimentary European classic modern furniture.
