The lighting for this project was designed for a very special event honoring the world-renowned photographer Cindy Sherman, whose works are exhibited at the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens, Greece.
The concept for the lighting could be described as a choreography of light. The centerpiece of the lighting arrangement was a series of stylish poles, each having on top adjustable spotlights strategically positioned to illuminate the dinner tables These poles were strategically positioned across the three separate rooms, ensuring that each table received well-directed illumination. The spotlights not only highlighted the exquisite table settings and culinary creations but also created a warm and inviting glow that accentuated the guests' experience.
Complementing the table lighting, subtle yet impactful ambient lighting was introduced through small, battery-operated lights mounted on the ceilings of each room. These lights were programmed to gently shift colors in a slow, rhythmic dance, mirroring the progression of the dinner from one course to the next. The color transitions were designed to be smooth and harmonious, creating a dynamic yet serene backdrop that evolved with the event. This gradual shift in hue added a layer of visual interest and sophistication, subtly enhancing the overall mood without overwhelming the space.
The interplay between the direct illumination from the spotlights and the ambient ceiling lights created a balanced and enchanting atmosphere. The spotlights ensured that each dish was showcased with clarity and precision, while the ambient lights added depth and dimension to the rooms, reflecting the rich textures and tones of the museum's architecture. The result was a cohesive and immersive lighting experience that complemented the evening's fine dining and cultural ambiance, making the dinner not just a meal but a memorable visual and sensory journey.
In conclusion, the lighting design for the dinner at the Museum of Cycladic Art masterfully combined elegant spotlights and dynamic ambient illumination. This thoughtful approach not only highlighted the dinner set but also created a captivating and immersive atmosphere, enhancing the visual experience of the evening.
