CONVERGENCE OF THREE RIVERS

The public artwork "CONVERGENCE OF THREE RIVERS" was made by the artist Alvin Zhang and is located at the commercial entrance of Ganzhou Merchants Center.

The work is inspired by the geography and humanity of Ganzhou: The Gong and Zhang rivers merged in Ganzhou to form the Gan River, which has given birth to a city surrounded by mountains and water. As for the name of the Gan River, Guo Pu, a writer from the two Jin dynasties, remarked in The Classic of Mountains and Rivers about the "Gan Giant": "There is Gan water in Nankang, and the name of the water was given to it because of the existence of this man (Gan Giant)." Such interesting intersections and allusions inspired artist Alvin Zhang to create this work. He distilled the essence of the convergence of the three rivers and presented such intersection in a giant-like form.

The work consists of three arches of different sizes, the tallest of which is 7 meters high, standing at the entrance of the commercial building, symbolizing the Zhangjiang, Gongjiang and Ganjiang rivers that converge in Ganzhou. From a frontal perspective, the three arches are like three rivers rising from the earth and converging under the sky to form a magnificent rainbow gate.

In the evening, pedestrians can rest under the artwork and look up at the sky through the holes, at this moment "CONVERGENCE OF THREE RIVERS" softens its imposing presence, and under the reddish sunset, along with the slow smoke, it looks extraordinarily gentle.

"CONVERGENCE OF THREE RIVERS" not only boasts a breathtaking form, but also serves as an extremely creative light work. At night, the arches illuminate with glowing lights, mirroring the stars in the sky and making the viewer to imagine distant myths. The spirit of the three rivers that goes on day and night will bless Ganzhou, a city of mountains and waters, just as the river has nurtured the land over the thousands of years.
