Birdhouse

The birdhouse is a product design based on environmental and animal protection research for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal number fifteen: Life on Land. In the past two decades, urbanization has led to a decline in bird populations. This birdhouse aims to recreate an ecosystem for small birds in urban areas. It not only relies on the capabilities of experts and social organizations to help birds but also entrusts the responsibility of bird protection to every individual. By using interactive methods, it attracts passersby to engage with the birdhouse. Feeding the birds is done by pressing the top of the birdhouse. The birdhouse consists of two levels: the upper level is a feeder, and the lower level is the birdhouse itself. The mechanical structure of the feeder is similar to that of a mechanical keyboard, allowing food to drop to the lower level when pressed. The tactile feedback and sound (similar to a keyboard) provide users with a sense of satisfaction, encouraging more people to participate in this activity, making wildlife conservation less stressful and more playful. These egg-shaped feeders attract birds to inhabit them. The shape and colors are inspired by robin eggs, with blue and green being colors favored by birds. These egg-shaped birdhouses will be installed in parks or along roadsides. The lower birdhouses are used for interaction and feeding, while the higher ones provide living spaces for birds. The entrance diameter is specifically designed for small birds, and the top shape serves as a deterrent against squirrels and other intruders.
