Bangkok is considered a “city on the water”, where the canals were once vital for transportation and livelihoods. Today, the city faces mounting challenges from flooding and drainage issues. Land subsidence and rising sea levels due to global warming pose persistent threats, while heavily polluted waterways have turned the Chao Phraya River and downstream canals into dumping grounds, further complicating life for residents.
This project envisions water as a valuable resource, utilizing green infrastructure to purify waterways, mitigate flood risks, and revive Bangkok's water culture. The initiative aims to reconnect the Khlong Toei community with the city's central canals, transforming the area into an "urban oasis" that improves living conditions and supports sustainable development.
Through the creation of open public spaces and the widening of pathways, the initiative seeks to implement equity through urban connection, advocate communication and encourage a thriving, inclusive economy.
