We Vikings

For the Fries Museum, Studio Louter and OPERA Amsterdam developed the concept, design, and AV for the temporary exhibition We Vikings. In this exhibition, new scientific insights about Frisia during the Viking era are presented. The traditional image of the savage Vikings is nuanced. Vikings should not be seen as a Scandinavian nation, but Viking was a pirate lifestyle. In the exhibition, we take visitors on a journey from recognition to horror. We confront them with the question: would you also go Viking? To achieve this emotional transition, a different atmosphere has been created in each exhibition hall. We choose for a dramatic approach with theatrical lighting and large ambient projections, without overshadowing the beautiful historical objects.
