Soft Margins is a temporary pavilion designed with a modular system of reusable and biodegradable wood and textile partitions, enhancing thermal permeability and spatial flexibility. Created to reclaim vacant lots in downtown Logroño, the pavilion provides shade and respite, transforming underutilized urban spaces into opportunities for social interaction.

The breathable curtains not only regulate airflow and temperature but also dissolve the boundaries between enclosures and gathering spaces. As the curtains glide along their tracks, they define the interior space, creating a fluid, curved movement that draws people in and out of the pavilion. The flexibility of the curtains allows the space to be one or many, empowering visitors to reconfigure it for a variety of uses—from intimate meditation spaces to larger workshops and gatherings.

At its core, Soft Margins is a prototype for low-cost, easily prefabricated urban infills that mediate heatwaves and create reconfigurable public space in underserved areas. The design encourages collective participation, fostering a sense of belonging and co-creation within the community. Chosen for their sustainability, the biodegradable wooden panels, structural members, and textiles offer the potential for recycling and reuse, making the pavilion an adaptable, environmentally responsible solution for future urban interventions.
