The 2025 Central Taiwan Lantern Festival made a grand entrance at Taichung Central Park, where the fusion of natural topography, advanced lighting technology, and traditional lantern craftsmanship culminated in a world-class event that bridges cultural heritage with futuristic innovation. Within the 2-hectare dry detention basin, a groundbreaking dynamic mechanical main lantern named "Goddess Nuwa" was unveiled. Standing at 12 meters tall and 20 meters long, it is capable of moving forward approximately 30 meters. Employing sophisticated mechanics and pulley systems, the lantern exhibits lifelike movements such as head raising, turning, and arm lifting. Integrated with augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) interactions, this display symbolizes creation, blessings and a symbiosis of shared prosperity, setting a new standard for interactive cultural exhibitions.
The festival intricately blends local culture with international elements, creating a spectacle that spans cultural and technological innovations:
Urban Oasis Zone: This section combines poetry with lighting to showcase the natural beauty of Taichung, celebrated through its mountains, seas and urban landscapes.
Flavorful Feast Zone: Lanterns on the water mimic a bubbling hot pot, recreating the rich culinary culture of Taichung, evoking the essence of local dining experiences.
Snakes Party Zone: Incorporating diverse cultural symbols, including Egyptian pharaohs, Indian snake gods, the Taiwanese Earth God and indigenous hundred-pacer snakes, this area symbolizes international exchange and unity.
KUSO Snakes Zone: With its pun-inspired design, this zone provides educational fun in a family-friendly setting, perfect for parents and children to enjoy together.
The festival places a strong emphasis on green sustainability. During construction, measures were taken to protect vegetation and avoid deforestation. Energy consumption is minimized using LED lights with smart control systems and the lanterns feature modular designs that are recyclable and reusable.
This event is more than just a lantern festival; it is an international celebration where technology, culture, art, and environmental protection converge, setting a new benchmark for future festivals.
