Electric scooters are booming across U.S. cities, but urban infrastructure hasn’t caught up. Poorly designed curbside spaces, disconnected bike lanes, and inconsistent regulations make it challenging for riders, pedestrians, and drivers to coexist safely.
As a result, two major concerns arise: First, discontinuous curb conditions force riders to cross streets frequently, creating safety risks and disrupting traffic flow. Second, fragmented curbside management leads to congestion and underutilized curb space, making mobility inefficient for everyone.
To address the challenges of micro-mobility infrastructure, we introduce CURBLESS. CURBLESS is a data-driven, scalable solution designed to optimize curb space and improve last-mile mobility. We achieve this through several key strategies:
First, we use data science for smarter curbside management. We analyze real-time scooter data from APIs like Bird and Coord to understand mobility patterns. We also detect inefficiencies in parking allocation and optimize curbside usage.
Second, we implement adaptive urban infrastructure planning. We redistribute curb space to reduce vehicle-scooter conflicts while maximizing parking efficiency.
We also introduce in-app navigation and rider alerts to provide real-time curbside guidance. This enhances safety and ensures compliance with road laws.
