The Sichuan University Museum, situated on Wangjiang Road, Wuhou District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is a crucial
part of the Wangjiang historical and cultural area. The museum complex consists of three zones. The old museum,
retained as a humanities exhibition hall, has been updated, while the new one, functioning as a natural history museum,
has been newly added.
The lighting design harmoniously responds to the building's form, space, and materials, exuding Sichuan - style charm
with a distinct sense of hierarchy. The exterior of the low - rise exhibition halls accentuates the triangular space of the
modern hip - roof. The facade echoes the interior and exterior spaces, with the wall texture subtly emphasized, and the
red cornice bottom plate is spotlighted. The multiple red eaves of the high - rise office building are brightly lit. On regular
days, only the upper cornice is lit as an ornament, and during festivals, all areas are illuminated to reveal the interior
details.
In terms of details, linear floodlights of different powers are employed to project light on the gables, the exterior window
frames of the exhibition halls, the interior side of the curtain walls, and the eaves of the high - rise buildings, highlighting
the architectural features and layers. Lights hidden in the corner grilles of the research building showcase the detailed
texture. For the street - facing facades, pole - mounted long - distance floodlights are installed within the scope
acceptable to the landscape.
The lighting design focuses on the coordination of indoor and outdoor light colors and brightness. Through techniques
like indirect lighting, it enriches the spatial depth and inner charm. Viewed from the street, the building displays unique
night features under the illumination. Along the night - view line of the Jinjiang River, the building not only blends in but
also maintains its own characteristics, becoming a remarkable sight.
