“Life is architecture and architecture is the mirror of life.” – I.M. Pei

Likewise, the space reflects the transformation of an aging residence in the Da’an District of Taipei City, which had sat vacant for over twenty years. Following numerous years abroad in the U.S., the homeowner, a successful business owner, opted to refurbish it into a sanctuary in anticipation of the eventual return to Taiwan upon retirement. The design concept draws inspiration from the homeowners’ desire for a home reminiscent of their time in the U.S., yet transcending mere replication and embracing a style that is uniquely distinctive. Embracing a human-centric approach, the design aims to create a space that is both familiar and innovative, laying out layers of life experiences that resonate with the occupants on multiple levels.

Through the use of minimalist materials, sleek lines, a tailored blend of earthy whites, and precise proportions and detailing, modern design elements seamlessly integrate with the refined elegance of Americana style interior design. By reshaping the space, it radiates a contemporary elegance that pays homage to its past while forging a distinct identity. It retains the historical essence of the area, evoking memories of childhood and familial bonds, while also providing a canvas for future gatherings with loved ones. For the homeowner couple who frequently traverse the globe, their abode in Taiwan serves as a reassuring constant, even amidst their travels. It embodies a sense of belonging, akin to finding solace in one’s roots, offering a steadfast foundation for their hearts. Each return to Taiwan presents an opportunity to craft limitless possibilities for living, fostering a sense of boundless enjoyment in life.
