Timeless Serenity in Italian Mid-Century Modernity
Born from the lyrical rhythm of slow living, this seaside residence reinterpret mid-century modernism for a curator couple and their child. Avoiding stark contrasts, the design weaves warm walnut tones with Venetian plaster textures, crafting spatial poetry that hums with restrained elegance.
In the living area, a floating inkstone-inspired bookshelf amalgamates library (220+ volumes), tea ceremony station (36 specialty tea varieties), and rotating gallery for owner-curated calligraphy scrolls. The 4.8m white oak table transforms from scholarly desk to social canvas, its grain mirroring adjacent fluted travertine fireplace. Subtle stratification emerges through acoustically tuned fabric panels, absorbing echoes during guqin performances while framing Mount Fu views.
Kitchen cabinetry conceals museum-grade humidity control for vintage Pu'er storage, adjacent to a rotating brass rack displaying global ceramics collected across 17 countries. Sunset hues permeate dining rituals through prismatic glass panels, casting refraction patterns mimicking tidal patterns of Bohai Bay.
Owner identities crescendo in private realms:
Master Suite: Sound-optimized vaulted ceiling cocoons morning pipa rehearsals. Bespoke oak lattice disguises 240L instrument storage, while automated drapes calibrate dawn light for meditative tea rituals.
Study: Suspended walnut cubes trophy court memorabilia (9 championship cups flanking tournament photographs). Hidden charging alcoves maintain wireless tranquility beneath herringbone oak flooring.
Material alchemy reveals itself in quiet details — flax linen upholstery infused with seaweed pigments, recovered terrazzo bridging 1960s Brescia stonecraft with local crushed shell aggregates. Daylight choreographs 14 hourly scenarios through layered sheers and mobile brass screens.
Beyond spatial curation, it’s an heirloom vessel — its patina deepening as calligraphy ink stains the tea sink, as daughter’s growth markers notch the kitchen island. Designed to cradle years, not trends.
