Rooted deeply in Jingdezhen’s globally renowned ceramic culture, the design transcends mere symbolism to create a contemporary space that honors tradition while satisfying modern technical and experiential requirements.
The project features a meticulously organized spatial layout that unifies equipment functions, particularly ventilation systems. Air outlets and equipment chambers are thoughtfully harmonized, delivering both architectural coherence and operational efficiency. The “clean water walls” utilize sculptural concrete recesses as subtle hanging points for artworks, while ceiling forms are precisely coordinated with structural elements to enhance spatial expression and create an immersive, dynamic environment.
Cultural identity is expressed through abstracted ceramic glaze textures, the tensile qualities of terracotta colors, and specially designed “black boxes” intended to showcase ceramic artworks. Concrete is selected for its plasticity and diverse textures, allowing creative shaping while enabling accurate pre-embedding of equipment. This ensures that technical components blend seamlessly with the artistic vision, maintaining the space’s aesthetic integrity.
Lighting design employs modular integrated equipment panels that facilitate efficient and compact installation on the concrete surfaces. Adjustable track lighting and sophisticated control systems provide the flexibility needed for various exhibition setups, achieving a delicate balance between atmospheric ambiance and energy efficiency, thereby enhancing both functionality and visitor experience.
Sustainability is a core principle, demonstrated through the use of locally sourced glazed tiles produced via artisanal glazing and kiln transformation processes. This artisanal technique combines the precision of parametric design with irreplaceable human aesthetic judgment, ensuring high production efficiency while preserving the unique artistic character. The sculptural quality of concrete further enriches the tactile and sensory experience of the auditorium.
From an acoustic standpoint, over 600,000 modular tiles are standardized and installed using slot-based components, allowing layered arrangements that effectively manage vibration and sound absorption. The intentional irregular gaps between tiles not only enrich the visual texture but also optimize acoustic performance, creating a sophisticated, integrated spatial atmosphere conducive to both performance and comfort.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can harmonize cultural heritage, technological innovation, and functionality, transforming an auditorium into a landmark space that is both expressive and highly practical.
