Located in an alley beside Hsinchu’s Chenghuang Temple, the project is a renovation of a 60-year-old shophouse. Inspired by a dream of a bustling heritage home, the concept resonates with the cultural ambiance of the site. Originally a shop selling anime merchandise, the client envisioned a gathering hub that fuses youthful trends with historical textures—a place where visitors can "recharge" amid the old street’s tourism bustle. The design preserves original hinoki wood windows, wooden flooring, and brick walls, achieving maximum heritage retention with minimal intervention. This rich backdrop now highlights the energy of contemporary subcultures.
Turning into the narrow alley, each floor introduces a distinct theme:
The ground-floor façade features Cermaent paint, vintage tiles, woodwork, and adjustable lighting that together create a warm, layered arrival experience. The second floor becomes a capsule toy game zone in a vibrant American comic style, with large display cabinets, neon outlines, and color-block flooring echoing the wall graphics, forming a lively visual rhythm.
The third floor preserves period details such as hinoki windows, terrazzo flooring, and vintage sewing machines repurposed into seating, paired with antique chandeliers and English-style paneling to form a retro-fusion lounge. The fourth floor takes on a camping-lodge aesthetic, extending into a terrace with panoramic temple views, cactus murals, and abundant greenery—making it an ideal “charging station” for social media and the spirit.
Each level is equipped with sound and color-changing lighting systems, enhancing flexibility while reducing energy waste. This cultural corner becomes a delightful, energy-charged transit station for all.
