The Dragon Boat Festival, a significant traditional Chinese holiday, prominently features dragon boat racing in Guangzhou, serving as a vital expression of cultural heritage and festive spirit. For a meat zongzi gift box product targeting the Guangzhou market, the challenge was to seamlessly integrate the dragon boat, a symbol of regional cultural significance, with the core zongzi product image, aligning with the festival theme to create a packaging design that is culturally profound and visually engaging.
The design adopts a stand-up, hand-held PE bag, replacing the traditional fruit basket while retaining its functional attributes. This choice allows greater design flexibility and visual expression, distinctly differentiating it from the homogenized gift packaging prevalent during the festival. Inspired by river water and zongzi leaves, the packaging employs a blue-green color scheme, harmonizing with and enhancing the Dragon Boat Festival atmosphere.
The pattern design is undoubtedly one of the most visually striking highlights. At the focal point of the packaging, two plump, enticing, and realistic egg yolk meat zongzi images stimulate consumer interest, immediately conveying the product’s content and quality. Below the zongzi, a dragon boat motif is subtly incorporated, paired with decorative wave elements. Through this creative combination of visual symbols, the design constructs a cultural imagery of “a basket of dragon boats delivering zongzi,” effectively blending traditional festival culture with the gift-giving context. The dynamic depiction of waves further amplifies the majestic momentum of dragon boat racing, enhancing the overall rhythm and festive ambiance of the design.
