Cēla is a conceptual olive oil packaging project that elevates the everyday act of using olive oil into a symbolic and aesthetic ritual. Rooted in the Aegean Sea’s cultural heritage, Cēla merges the memory of tradition with contemporary design values. The sculptural bottle draws inspiration from Cycladic figurines and Minoan frescoes, embodying the essence of Mediterranean legacy. Its circular glass form showcases the purity and golden richness of the oil, while minimal illustrations appear to 'dance' through the liquid, emphasizing the interplay of transparency and form.
At the heart of the design lies a poetic duality: utility and symbolism. The bottle is cradled in a C-shaped wooden base, a reference to the brand name and a sculptural gesture that transforms the product into an object of display and reverence. The packaging is completed with four illustrated guardians, the Eye, the King, the Spirit of Nature, and the Storyteller, each symbolizing a value passed down through generations.
Cēla is not just a container but a medium of storytelling. It proposes a contemporary ritual of offering and receiving, inviting tactile interaction and emotional reflection. Its materials, glass and wood are chosen with ecological awareness, with no use of plastic, reinforcing the values of sustainability and authenticity. The design speaks to collectors, connoisseurs, and those who value the narrative potential of everyday objects.
The project’s objective was to explore new storytelling methodologies in food packaging, transcending conventional market norms through sculptural language, cultural depth, and design purity. Cēla’s unique identity lies in this intersection of materiality, symbolism, and visual poetry.
Cēla redefines olive oil packaging as an experience. It is a modern heirloom, a sensory celebration, and a quiet tribute to heritage, distilled into a single, sculptural form.
