The landscape design of Poly Oriental Mansion in Xi'an centers on a core vision: "Tracing the ceremonial elegance of the Tang Dynasty’s golden age, bridging the cultural threads of past and present." It seeks to revive the mountainous serenity captured in classical paintings like Streams and Mountains in Distant Clarity and Viewing Waterfalls Through Pine Shade.
Working with the site’s natural slope, three gateways are arranged to reflect time-honored rituals. Mythical louden stone beasts, ornate boxing floral motifs, and champagne-gold dougong (traditional bracket systems) converge to evoke the grandeur of a royal residence.
The second courtyard distills the essence of pines, rocks, and craggy cliffs. Dragon-scale waterfalls cascade alongside cloud-patterned tiles, echoing the regal dignity of the Tang Dynasty in every detail.
The third section unfolds as a panoramic landscape scroll, anchored by an 8-meter waterfall, Qingyuan Pavilion, and a book repository. Hillside corridors and green islets weave together pathways, guiding visitors through the scenery with seamless flow.
Metallic textures clash artfully with time-worn hues, while pines, Chinese tallow trees, and crape myrtles paint a living portrait of the four seasons. Here, the cultural soul of Chang 'an—Xi’an’s ancient name as Tang Dynasty capital—finds expression in a pool and mountain streams, reimagining a contemporary courtyard estate as a sanctuary for oriental spiritual life.
