This project transforms the basement of a luxury residence into a sophisticated family reception and entertainment area, separated from private living spaces by an independent elevator lobby to ensure privacy.
Inspired by classical French architecture, Ionic columns with simplified fluting and capitals define the living spaces, balancing grandeur with modern restraint. Warm beige walls with delicate acanthus leaf reliefs and natural marble flooring enhance the elegant atmosphere. The ceremonial corridor uses cross-vault arches guiding guests toward a “painting hall” featuring Monet-style lacquer artwork that beautifully fuses Eastern and Western art traditions.
Taking advantage of the site's natural one-floor height difference between the north and south sides, the design creates a layered landscape with a northern courtyard and southern garden. This enables a unique two-level basement: a semi-underground level facing the garden housing a gym and spa, and a fully underground level functioning as a grand banquet hall. The gym features transparent walls that connect visually to the outdoor golf practice green, blending indoor and outdoor experiences seamlessly for residents and guests.
A specially designed light well brings natural daylight underground, creating a bright and welcoming environment. The entrance corridor enhances the sense of arrival with a gradual spatial progression, meeting the owner’s needs for elegant social gatherings and intimate family living.
To soften the bar area’s irregular triangular plan, curved vaulted ceilings and contrasting materials like dark teak and light surfaces define spaces while enhancing harmony. A full-height green wall extends garden greenery indoors. Custom chandeliers inspired by lotus petals are crafted from translucent glass, blending art and function with warm, dynamic lighting.
Structural challenges such as obstructive shear walls and columns were resolved through collaboration with engineers, involving selective removal and reinforcement to create a continuous ceremonial corridor over 20 meters long. Meticulous material selection—favoring matte-finished French wood-grain stone, carved natural stone with subtle textures, and soft-toned cherry wood in private areas—further elevates the spatial quality.
By seamless integrating classical elegance, modern sophistication, and practical functionality, the project delivered a luxurious yet comfortable living environment.
