The project renovates a 17-year-old, 66.1 square meters pre-owned apartment in Luzhou. The couple, approaching retirement, chose to leave their original home to their children and create a new dwelling for themselves. They wished for a space that was enduring, simple, and unpretentious. Named Minimalistic Elegance, the design reflects this vision by emphasizing minimalist aesthetics, removing unnecessary ornamentation, and focusing on the harmony of light, materials, and circulation. The home embodies both the couple’s shared understanding and the understated beauty of later life.
The style is defined as simplicity with layers. At the entrance, a low cabinet with rounded corners avoids sharp collisions, ensuring both safety and visual softness. The TV wall combines textured art panels with irregular titanium-coated metal strips and white grilles, breaking monotony so that simplicity remains enduringly elegant. Careful detailing avoids the coldness of plain white walls, instead conveying a calm character aligned with the residents’ temperament.
Another key intervention was circulation. By removing the kitchen wall and replacing it with dual-purpose cabinetry—facing the kitchen on one side and the bedroom on the other—the designer not only enhanced storage but also improved daylight penetration. The once-cramped layout was transformed into one that is peaceful, minimalistic, and elegant. With no excessive or decorative lines, the design unites needs into a cohesive whole, producing a functional yet refined minimalist aesthetic and a serene daily experience.
