This project draws inspiration from the concept of a “breathing space within the urban jungle,” blending the imperfect beauty of Japanese Wabi-sabi with the functional rationality of Scandinavian minimalism. It responds to the pressures of high-density city life by reinterpreting the vertical layering of natural forests—ground vegetation, canopy, and treetops—into architectural language. The lower level, with kitchen and living areas, provides shelter like the forest floor; the mezzanine evokes the freedom of the canopy; and the balcony extends outward like branches, connecting daily life with surrounding greenery.
Spatially, the design emphasizes both efficiency and poetry. The staircase, composed of black steel handrails and glass balustrades, not only circulates vertically but also incorporates hidden storage, such as a built-in litter box, offering smart solutions for compact homes. Multi-source lighting—pendant lamps, wall sconces, and LED edge lights—interacts with filtered daylight through blinds, creating dynamic shadows that function as both illumination and emotional catalyst. Sliding doors blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors, enhancing natural ventilation, daylight, and therapeutic ambiance.
Materiality underscores a dialogue between warmth and restraint. Wood, metal, and leather combine to form layers of tactile contrast: coarse grains of timber against smooth steel and leather surfaces. Greenery softens the industrial accents, embodying a “less is more” philosophy and transforming the home into an organic, textured living environment. At the same time, pet-friendly features are seamlessly integrated—dog beds recessed into corners, bowls built into shelving, and hidden litter compartments—addressing contemporary “human–pet co-living” trends without visual clutter.
Beyond aesthetics, the project delivers social value. Innovative mezzanine and hidden storage strategies address the constraints of small urban apartments, providing affordable yet efficient living solutions. The interplay of natural light, soft tones, and greenery creates a restorative atmosphere that eases stress and supports mental well-being. Energy-efficient lighting, natural ventilation, and sustainable materials reduce reliance on artificial systems, aligning the project with global calls for sustainable living and healthier indoor environments.
