The design theme, New Era of the Stone City - Dancing Dragon and Wandering Fish, is manifested in the Stone City culture, the value of the Yuzui District, Yiju brand, project significance, space highlights, and space’s atmosphere as the poem says that “Eagles cleave the air, fish glide in the limpid deep; Under freezing skies, a million creatures contend in freedom.”
Design Inspiration: Nanjing Stone City culture, Hexi Yuzui District, Wetland culture
Design Elements: Fish shape, gate, wetland ecology
Finishing touches: Red wall of the Ming Dynasty Palace, golden roof of royal residence, the warm sunrise of the wetland
Core techniques: Metal meshwork, rock slab, tinted art glass, corrugated stainless steel, paper sculpture
Design highlights: The overall space of the lobby is outlined holistically in vertical and horizontal directions. The elevation advantages of the lobby, the functional spaces on both sides of the building, and the aisle space on the second floor are highlighted by the components of metals, tinted glass, piano-keyboard-like stairs, and artistic installations like paper fish sculptures, which can lift the space’s visual effect and flexibility in the meantime. The space between the first floor and the second is partitioned by tinted art glass ensuring the transparency of the space. The reception desk is spliced in a form of flowing water, echoing with the background of swimming fish.
The lobby and the overall property model display area reach an integration of different areas and function by applying the same materials of metal, corrugated stainless steel and tinted art glass to elevate the integrity of the space. The fish-like installation and the model display area’s light system that is shaped from the “Nanjing Eye Footbridge” are reflecting with each other on the top of the building.
The finishing touch of “swimming fish” is deployed throughout the whole space, while the tinted art glass is transitioned with plain white undercoat in large areas.
Hexi, a luxury house cluster in Nanjing, takes into account the urban context, regional features, customer psychology, and market differentiation while giving play to the advantages of story height in the delicate space.
