The project is located in Shucun, Haidian District, Beijing, adjacent to the Qing Dynasty mosque and steeped in the rich cultural heritage of the "Three Hills and Five Gardens," with the Old Summer Palace and Summer Palace nearby. Centered on the theme of “Where Learning Meets Heritage,” it creates an intellectual and social hub that integrates history, academia, and contemporary living.
Based on the symbiosis of indoor and outdoor landscapes, the design translates the cultural DNA of the Old Summer Palace through contemporary artistic language.Inspired by the Forty Scenes of the Old Summer Palace, it offers an immersive cultural journey across levels, encouraging interaction and reflection.
Entry Hall
Inspired by the namesake scene from the Old Summer Palace, the concept of "Leaping Water" and "Graceful Bamboo" is realized through a plain silk bamboo embroidery screen and a seal-engraved water sculpture, sketching a poetic sequence of returning home in interplay with light and shadow.
Ground Floor Study Hall
Emulating the poetic notion of "Filtering Moonlight into Writting Paper," a layered metal framework shapes an illuminated cubic space. Eschewing dazzling decor, the design encourages natural dialogue between books, light, and shadow. A dedicated children’s reading area with flexible geometric sofas fosters parent-child shared reading.
Ground Floor Multi-Purpose Room
Centered around a luxurious stone table, it features tea sets inspired by the animal heads of the Old Summer Palace, balancing business formality with the refined ambiance of tea appreciation.
Underground Floor Cultural Creative Book Café
Inspired by "Seeking Islands in a Sea of Books," circular sofas encircle like islands, extending into a sunken courtyard with views for every season. Custom-made cultural items and ink-textured coffee tables add poetic detail.
Underground Floor Swimming Pool
Extending the poetic imagery of "Clear Ripples in Emerald Green," natural light and clouds reflect in the pool, while luminous art pieces mirror like ink washes. Thuja, rocks, and foliage weave together a natural poetic narrative.
More than a space, this project embodies local culture, natural poetry, inclusive design, and cultural creativity.
