Yuexiu Guanjin Heyue Mansion

This project draws inspiration from Lin'an's rich Wuyue cultural heritage and the poetic charm of its canal-laced water towns, designed for upscale clientele seeking refinement and lasting value. The residence exemplifies a “Timeless Estate” concept, focusing on social elegance, family cohesion, and collector’s value. The design weaves local artisan crafts, such as lacquerware, porcelain, textile art, and woodblock carving, into a contemporary spatial language, blending tradition with modern sophistication.
Centered around five core principles—Ritual, Gathering, Refinement, Heritage, and Nobility—the space is carefully crafted to offer a living experience of understated luxury. The design avoids mere ornamentation, instead translating cultural essence into the materiality, artistry, and ambiance of the space, creating an environment that fosters both social interaction and private reflection.
A key challenge was expressing local culture without it becoming superficial. The solution involved extracting the textures and luminous qualities from traditional crafts, which were reinterpreted into materials and display systems, achieving a refined and memorable atmosphere. Additionally, managing the high risks associated with premium materials and artworks was addressed through pre-construction mock-ups and a material strategy that balances luxury with budget constraints.
Sustainability is emphasized through modular design, allowing for flexible, long-term use and minimizing waste. The use of eco-friendly materials, such as low-VOC paints and sustainable fabrics, supports a greener approach to design while ensuring durability and ease of maintenance in the future. The space is designed for longevity, reducing the need for frequent renovations and offering a sustainable, high-end living experience.
