About The Entry

The goal of the project is to create one of the most vibrant hubs of public and business life in the center of Moscow. Among the announced tenants are: the beer house Brunnen (Paulaner Brauhaus), the restaurant and event space by Alexey Olkhovoy Original, the lounge bar and concert venue Rarum, as well as the signature sushi restaurant Japmen.

The project's objective is a comprehensive redevelopment of the historic wagon depot of the Moscow-Kursk Railway, transforming it into a multifunctional space. As part of the project, the surrounding area has been landscaped, and new opportunities have been created for various public activities.

The former carriage repair depot of Moscow-Kursk railway station is a unique landmark embodying the industrial spirit of early 20th-century Moscow. Despite not having official monument status, the building’s raw industrial charm has made it a magnet for creatives and urban explorers alike. Over the years, it has hosted art exhibitions, theater performances, and attracted train enthusiasts who enjoy panoramic views from its rooftop.

The design philosophy embraces three key principles: conservation, contrast, and integration. Conservation involved meticulous restoration of the Old Building's brick facades and characteristic metal trusses, preserving graffiti as an authentic layer of its history. Part of the existing facade has been demolished, as it no longer served any aesthetic or functional purpose. Instead, there is now a main entrance to the business center, accompanied by a large-scale stained-glass window that wraps around part of the old wall, creating a ruinous effect. Contrast was introduced by adding a contemporary New Building that respects the historical structure through thoughtful reinterpretation of architectural elements, such as pediments and window rhythms, creating a visual dialogue between past and present. Integration focused on opening up the site to the city with landscaped green spaces and a pedestrian passageway that links to public transit, blending urban functionality with historical references like embedded rails and excavated facade fragments.

The project transforms a forgotten industrial relic into a vibrant cultural and commercial destination at Moscow’s heart.
