Conceived as temporary architectural, retail installations, the Canada Goose Xi’an and Zhengzhou Pop-Up Pavilions transform retail into a spatial experience, occupying prominent luxury shopping mall atriums across China as sculptural environments that invite public engagement and pause. Strategically positioned within highly visible mall circulation zones, each pavilion extends beyond the conventions of retail, operating within the public realm as a place to gather, linger, and engage in the essence of this iconic Canadian brand.
Rooted in the brand’s origin story in the Arctic—where performance outerwear was first developed for extreme cold and rescue missions—the design translates heritage, exploration, and resilience into spatial form. The iconic disc logo, inspired by a traditional Arctic map and rendered in crisp white, blue, and red, becomes the generative framework of the architecture. Its latitude and longitude lines are abstracted, scaled, and spatialized, transforming a graphic emblem into an inhabitable structure that envelops and shelters visitors.
The ceiling serves as the pavilion’s defining architectural gesture. Suspended above the retail floor, the disc is revealed from both within the pavilion and from above the atrium, anchoring the experience vertically and reinforcing presence across multiple levels. This dual visibility transforms the pop-up into a landmark—recognizable from afar and immersive up close. Integrated lighting elements trace and echo the pavilion’s geometry, with reflective finishes and luminous detailing that abstractly reference the X-detail stitching of the Snow Mantra Parka, translating a functional construction detail into a spatial and atmospheric cue.
Below, a continuous deep blue carpet wraps the interior volume, flowing seamlessly through the space like the Arctic Ocean. This grounded, enveloping gesture introduces the ocean's vastness in an intimate space, counterbalancing the pavilion’s sculptural geometry while encouraging moments of pause, exploration, and community. Materials, color, and form work together to strengthen the experience, emphasizing human experience over transaction.
Together, the Pop-Up Pavilions reimagine the disc logo as more than a symbol—it becomes a spatial expression of innovation, endurance, and collective experience. Through architecture, materiality, and immersive form, the pavilions offer visitors a contemporary encounter that translates brand identity into a memorable and emotionally resonant experience.
