Huanglong Mountain Mine Park

Huanglong Mountain Quarry Park is located in Dingshu Town, Yixing City, China, with a landscape area of 244,084 ㎡.





About 600 years ago, as early as the Ming Dynasty, the existed project site had already been the main mining area for the raw material of Yixing Clay (also called Purple Sand), so it could be described as the "birthplace of Yixing Clay". Meanwhile, there are many relics and historic preservation sites with extremely high social and cultural value. The project site is connected to the Ecological Corridor in the north and the Yixing Clay Cultural Corridor in the south, acting as an important cultural node of the city.





Based on the geological culture and special landforms of Huanglong Mountain, as well as the social, cultural and economic values brought by historic site, we positioned Huanglong Mountain Quarry Park to be an "open-air geological museum". To reuse the historic Quarry site, we at the greatest extent preserved the original ecology, respected the historical trace and integrated contemporary lifestyle. It is a multidisciplinary project that coordinates architecture, signage and other fields, breaking through the boundaries of each field, to implement the concept of the geological museum. The design concept was developed from three aspects—the states of culture, material and business form, presenting the geological culture of Huanglong Mountain in the form of natural exhibits and earth exhibition halls .





The cultural and physical content of the site was finally confirmed through the field reconnaissance of historic site and mineral resources, as well as the delimitation of control lines for cultural relics protection units. As "China's Pottery Capital", Yixing's pottery art is well-known in the world. The design is positioned to be the "Huanglong Mountain Open-air Geological Museum", highlighting the cultural features of "China's Pottery Capital" and “source of Yixing clay”, and integrating the business type of Yixing clay culture experience.
