Luxeisland

The project is located in Jiangdong New District, Haikou, Hainan, with a landscape area of approximately 42,000 square meters. The main building is an earth sheltered art gallery, and the overall characteristic is modern and minimalist art.



Based on local humanities, plant features and surrounding resources of Hainan, and combined with the overall feature of the building, the landscape design proposes a composite modern and concise art garden space with artistic curves and superimposed functions.



The project focuses on the design and extension of spaces from plane to elevation, mainly with white paint ribbon throughout the space design. The front area and the core space, decorated with tropical plants, rain trees, plantains, ferns, and various mosses from Hainan, combined with the fog forest effect, presents a unique tropical rain forest space.



The scattered black gravels, white terrazzo…the sunlight penetrates through the gaps of the plants, covering the overall space with a romantic veil, providing us with a fantastic landscape painting.



In the early stage of the design, the design team faced up with challenges of the site. How to guide the crowds and sight into the main entrance space under the circumstances that the entrance of the site is not on the road interface? How to make landscape spaces penetrate and integrate mutually with the building and interior spaces?



We tried many design techniques and languages for spatial conversion and continuation, and finally chose the white ribbon, which runs through from the front of the entrance ceremony to the tropical rain forest space in the core area, till the pure forest space with ecological water system that went to the back area, mutually penetrating between modern art and ecological nature.
