Sanya Guang’anmen Hospital

Located in Sanyan, a city in southern China facing the South China Sea, Sanya Guang’anmen Hospital is a mixed community of Chinese medicine hospital and rehabilitation. The design aims to create a greening mixed community by studying with the local architectural context and meeting the local climate of tropical maritime monsoon. The heart of the development centres on three factors: intensive and efficient organization of the building functions, context-related building form and comfortable environment. To form a clear, concise and efficient circulation route, the main hospital function is set on the east side of the site near the main entrance, and the rehabilitation volume is set on the west side of the independent, quiet and comfortable site. All of them are covered by the roof to make the building volume into one. The facade design, the overhang of the eaves nearly 5 meters provides as much gray space as possible, and also adapts to the local climate. The eaves components, balconies and corridors are all used as the constituent elements of the facade, making up the continuous and flexible facade of the whole building. The simple form and complex structure reflect the design philosophy of "simple complexity". In terms of material, white paint and wood-colored metal components match each other, which is traditional and modern. Garden is another important concept in the design, which means wherever people is they could enjoy the natural atmosphere. Due to the organization, there are many courtyards on the site and a core landscape axis in the center, which not only provides the lighting, ventilation, views for the hospital building to comfort the patient, but also provides much outer spaces for break.
