Susurration of the History

Combining the public lake scene and private garden, the space represents the essential spirit of the Chinese aesthetics with important cultural context behind it. The site is located inside a park district, built with natural elements as a landmark.



Entering the lobby, one can immediately see the ink wash landscape paintings continuously depict a grand mountain ridges silhouette. With the majestic traditional construction and the bonsai installation, the designer applies the meaning of auspiciousness combined with the elegance of whorl flooring patterns and two-sided red glazed porcelain. The images formed by the elements echo with the atmosphere of literary and artistic activities back at the time.



The construction model area is applied with gray marble materials to present the symbolic images of sea tides. While illuminating the space, the squarish ceiling lights combined with dark-ruby backgrounded tea table island contribute to a sense of elegance and gentleness of Yancheng City.



Strolling around appreciating the aesthetics of modern art that integrates historical and cultural context, one can sense the harmonious exquisiteness at the seating area. Through use of rattens, spray paint wallpapers, wooden veneers, and gold imitation stainless steel, the story of the cultural environment is susurrated in modernity and restraint. Through the medium of lights, gently covering all the fluid lines applied, the space’s purity brings people back to the essence of life.



Yancheng city, the oriental wetland, the home of cranes and deers, was a place full of tea houses in the past. These places not only sell tea, tea snacks, they are also the spots where businessmen and gentry gathered together. A pot of tea for the customers was thus a polite gesture everywhere.



The designer therefore arranged a tea hall on the second floor with a full-sized glass French window allowing customers to enjoy the vista with a cup of tea. The famous Chinese poet, Su-shi, once said, “The essence of life comes from the joy of simplicity.”
