Eikinot coffee table

The Eikinot coffee table is a modern piece of furniture designed as a window between nature and modern living. Eikinot is old Norse for acorn and underscores the notion of heritage and origin. The one of a kind design draws its inspiration from the leaf of the oak and is made from solid wood from the same tree. Just like nature, the Eikinot table is a composition of organic and asymmetrical shapes and forms. This allows for a unique expression for every angle it is viewed from, both above and below. The tabletop is made from eight individual leaf blades. The wood grain of each blade is placed at a different angle from one another to enhance the flow and energy of the design. In turn, the leaf blades are held together by an internal skeleton exhibiting a pattern of smooth and organic curves. The skeleton offers exceptional strength and allows for the solid wood to expand and contract depending on season and environment. These seasonal movements will manifest themselves in the leaf opening and closing just like a living and breathing organism.
