As part of a total redesign of its core exhibition, The Zekelman Holocaust Center commissioned RAA to realign the gallery’s design and narrative with the perspectives of local Holocaust survivors. To give broader context to the grim lessons of the Holocaust, the redesigned exhibits took a layered approach to displaying the artifacts of war. The exhibitions emphasize the lives and testimonies of Michigan-based Holocaust survivors and bring prominence and visibility to survivors’ voices over those of their perpetrators. RAA utilized a pedagogical approach in planning and designing the new exhibitions which made them highly amenable to local students, the majority of whom are on non-Jewish heritage.
